Luke 16:19-31 is a parable but also is literal.
Then it can't be a parable. But maybe you might be able to let me know how it is literal?

What does bread produce? Crumbs?

This would mean that the thief got to heaven before Jesus.

God is a God of the living, not the dead.
That correct. The dead know nothing.
Ecclesiastes 9:5
For the living know that they shall die:
but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.
Ecclesiastes 9:6
Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished;
neither have they any more a portion for ever in any [thing] that is done under the sunWhat of the transfiguration?
The event where the prophet Elijah and Moses the lawgiver were quickened before Christ. Neither of which died a 'normal' death. One was caught up in a whirlwind one was taken by God at death.
